Sarah Hinners

Acting Director

Dr. Sarah Hinners is a landscape and urban ecologist, and a faculty member in the University of Utah Department of City & Metropolitan Planning. She has a lifelong fascination with the relationship between people and place, with how humans and landscapes mutually shape one another. This relationship is the basis of ecological planning, and it also underlies the still-developing field of urban ecology. At the University of Utah and in the Wasatch Front region, Sarah focuses her efforts as a researcher, educator, and community member on building strong, relevant, cutting-edge connections between other research disciplines, particularly in the sciences, social sciences and engineering, and the practice of urban planning. She sees the Ecological Planning Center as a nexus for ideas and an incubator of innovative approaches to building and re-building cities that are true, healthy, and sustainable expressions of human habitat.
